Grain Gallery AR

Wally and Betty’s Grain Gallery is an augmented reality journey that takes you from a wheat and barley farm all the way to your plate. During your journey, Wally Wheat will guide you as you drive a tractor during harvest to find out where the grain goes after a long summer of farming. You’ll crank a mill to see how wheat is ground up to make flour. Then you’ll take your freshly ground flour, make a pizza, toss it in the air and cook it in the oven! Once Wally has taught you all about wheat – one of Canada’s biggest and most well-known crops – you’ll meet

up with Betty Barley for a whole new journey! Along with Betty, you’ll harvest barley in the

field. Once you have barley seeds harvested and ready to go, you’ll go inside our cow friend’s stomachs to watch how those tiny, nutrient-packed seeds help it grow big and strong! But of course, cows need more than just one seed to grow big and healthy, so Betty will take you over to feed Charlie – our bovine buddy – several buckets of his beloved barley. Watch Charlie grow big and strong while he eats and see if he likes the barley! Don’t forget, farmers work hard to grow what we need to make some of our favourite foods like pizza, cookies, bread, muffins and pancakes. And with your help in Wally and Betty’s Grain Gallery, you’ll learn all about the important role they play in helping us grow big and strong… just like Charlie!

Wally and Betty’s Grain Gallery is owned and operated by the Alberta Wheat and Barley

Commissions. Together, the commissions represent 14,000 wheat and 11,000 barley farmers in Alberta. One of the commissions’ goals is to educate youth about where our comes from.
